How did the Cheyenne nation originate? The folklore or the myth was told like this: The legend says, the whole world was covered in water. A variation of water birds were upon this water. A man from the creator was put upon the water and asked these birds to find evidence if earth existed.
These water birds diving underwater to find anything that suggested earth was here but were unsuccessful in finding any evidence until one particular blue duck succeeded bringing mud on its beak to this man. Taking this mud, the man manipulated his fingers over it drying the mud then he placed small bits of mud on the water, magically the dirt continued to spread out all over the water and this was how earth was created.
